MINNEAPOLIS AND ST. PAUL, MN, March 04, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Minneapolis dental implants specialist Dr. Walter Hunt recently added Invisalign to his list of available services.
Hunt began offering Invisalign in January due to the large number of requests for the product he continuously received for the teeth alignment product.
"This gives us another option to offer our patients," Hunt said. "It's a popular way to go for orthodontia right now and general dentists can be quickly trained to use it."
Hunt was attracted to Invisalign's efficacy.
"It's very effective and it's nice to be able to offer a product in which no one can even tell that you're changing your smile," he said.
The Invisalign tooth alignment system is an alternative to traditional braces, which involves metal brackets, bands and wires. Instead of metal, Invisalign employs a set of clear plastic aligners that the patient is responsible for changing out about every two weeks.
The custom aligners are made of a sturdy, medical grade plastic and are virtually invisible when worn. They can be removed at will for eating, drinking and oral hygiene purposes. Because they are removable, virtually no food is off limits during the treatment.
However, it is important to note that the aligners must be worn as often as possible for the treatment to be effective, Hunt said.
"Obviously, the longer you wear the aligners, the quicker your teeth are going to move into proper alignment," he said. "So if you take them out to eat or brush and floss your teeth, you want to be sure to put the aligners back in once you're done. They won't align your teeth if they spend more time in the case than in your mouth."
Patients seem to be attracted to Invisalign for a variety of reasons, Hunt said. The treatment time typically is quicker than with traditional braces, and patients come in for check-ups every six weeks. Cosmetics also are important, as more people seek teeth alignment options that aren't noticeable.
Hunt is doing more than providing Invisalign to his patients- he's also undergoing Invisalign treatment himself.
"By going through the treatment, it will give me a better perspective as to what the patients are experiencing," he said. "It will be nice to be able to offer first-hand information on treatment expectations and results."
Hunt offers free consultations to people interested in learning about whether they are good candidates for Invisalign.
