NEW ORLEANS, LA, March 21, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Furnishing Our Neighbors Foundation (FONF), based in New Orleans, Louisiana, is assisting the local New Orleans District Attorney office with the loaning of furniture to transition their employees into suitable working conditions. Via the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO), word went out that Federal and State monies were not readily available to adequately assist with the specific interior needs of the District Attorneys office as the new administration expanded into additional locals in Orleans Parish. Upwards of 30 employees were provided with furniture. Another 20 plus will be provided for in March.
Mandi Thompson, Foundress of the Furnishing Our Neighbors Foundation, was excited to be able to help in any way possible. "The chance to help our local DA was very important to me and the foundation. My steadfast belief in assisting First Responders, teachers or an organization such as the District Attorneys office will do nothing but help get our great city back on its feet quickly and efficiently," said Thompson.
Ms. Thompson initiated the Re-define 8/29 campaign to afford ably refurnish and rebuild New Orleans and also provide the same type of disaster aid to communities nationwide. Re-define 8/29 was named to commemorate the tragic day Hurricane Katrina made landfall on August 29, 2005. FONF provides the majority of its items such as lamps, headboards, mirrors, upholstered side chairs, nightstands and desks for either $8 or $29. Other fine furnishings are available; none exceeding $208. We extend many thanks for donations from Starbucks, Astor Hotel, Childrens Hospital, Orreck, Homestead Suites New Orleans and many others locally and nationally.
FONF also has collaborated with, to name a few of our partners, the New Orleans Musicians Relief Fund, Community Center of St. Bernard Parish, Greater New Orleans Disaster Recovery Partnership, Red Cross, United Way, and FEMA. Proceeds are allocated for disaster relief, cultural preservation, and vocational training programs.
"We are open to the public with no forms to fill out or proof of income. Just show up with a truck, select what you need, and see how FONF can help. Always remember," says Mandi Thompson, "No matter what life throws your way, you will always need a chair." Furnishing Our Neighbors will be here for you. How can we help?"
