InsuranceAgents.com Discusses Uninsured Drivers and Recession with Fox News

Fox Chicago News reports on unemployment rate, uninsured drivers, and rising premium costs

CHICAGO, IL, April 04, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A recent report from Fox News states that nearly 1.3 million drivers hit the road without auto insurance. The increase in the uninsured may lead to increases in already rising auto insurance premiums. Seth Kravitz, CEO of Insuranceagents.com (http://www.insuranceagents.com/), contributed to the story that also received accounts from an insurance agent, an uninsured motorist and a 17-year-old male who was struck by an uninsured driver's hit and run.

According to an Allstate insurance agent, Michael Maher, insurance bills are traditionally the first to go unpaid during financial strain.

"In these times that we are going through I've probably seen more cancellations, terminations because of people losing their job, losing their income," Maher said.

However, according to Kravitz, auto insurance policies don't need to be dropped to save money. Instead, he recommends drivers shop around for car insurance quotes that better fit their budget.

"People are definitely trying to save money," Kravitz said. "One of the easiest ways to do that is just compare policies. Find a lower rate."

If a driver is uninsured, depending on the laws of that state, they can get their license plates suspended and face expensive fines. Today, 1 in every 10 drivers is uninsured, according to the Insurance Research Council (http://www.ircweb.org/). And the council predicts that the problem will only get worse, with that number possibly rising to 1 in every 6 drivers being uninsured by next year.
