'An Eye For An Eye' Wins the 2005 BookAdz Award

Alvin Abram, a Toronto author, has won the 2005 BookAdz Award for Best Book with 'An Eye For An Eye'.



    /24-7PressRelease/ - EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA, November 23, 2005 ~ Alvin Abram, a Toronto author, has won the 2005 BookAdz Award for Best Book with 'An Eye For An Eye'. This historical fiction tale of love, persecution and betrayal is set in the chaos of post World War II.

Abram is a storyteller, writer and graphic designer of books. He attended York University's Creative Fourth Year Writing Course in 1995, followed by an Outline Course in 1996 at University of Toronto, finishing with a Creative Summer Writing Course at Humber College in 1997. Since 1995, he has had over 100 speaking engagements, and he has been reviewed on radio, television and in the newspapers in Canada and the U.S.

Alvin Abram's other published works include:

• 'The Light After the Dark' - featuring six true stories about children who had experiences of chance and circumstance during the Holocaust. It has been published three times and sold in several countries as well as reunited people thought dead. $20,000 of the royalties for this book has been donated to Jewish charities.
• 'Why, Zaida?' - a full color, illustrated, hard cover fictional story of a nine-year-old boy who asks his grandfather why the old man has no father or mother. The grandfather uses a squirrel, a dog, a robin, a stick and a stream, grass and weeds as metaphors to answer the boy's question.
• 'The Light After the Dark II' - a soft cover book of an additional six true stories about children who had experiences of chance and circumstance during the Holocaust.
• 'The Unlikely Victims' - a book about a Jewish Toronto homicide detective, Gabe Garshowitz. This book was nominated for the Arthur Ellis Award by Crime Writers of Canada as one of the five Best First Novels for 2002 and has been optioned for television.
• 'Stories I Wrote' - a book of 18 stories from the 30 stories that have appeared in such publications as 'Chicken Soup for the Parent's Soul', 'Women's World Magazine' (New York), and more.

Alvin Abram has been a volunteer in the Jewish community all his life. He has been a past President of Leonard Mayzel Ontario Lodge B'nai Brith, Vice President of Jewish National Fund (Toronto), Canadian Society of Yad Vashem, Director of Canadian Friends of Boys Town of Jerusalem, and is a member of Crime Writers of Canada and Writers Union of Canada.

Abram answered the submission call for a new award sponsored by BookAdz.com, a website promoting Canadian and American authors. The BookAdz Award is awarded to the author of a Best Book written by a Canadian or American author and published by independent, university, small press and self-publishers or print-on-demand (POD). 2005 is the first year that the award has been presented.
