PALM SPRINGS, CA, April 17, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael H. Lord Gallery announces the exhibition of four rarely-seen paintings by Robert Beauchamp (American, 1923-1995). Beauchamp was one of the first and most prominent Figurative Expressionist painters to come out of the New York School art scene in the late 1950's. The Metropolitan Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, and The Whitney Museum are among the numerous public collections of his works.
The oils on canvas painted from 1963 to 1987 include "Self-Portrait as Bill King" from 1977, "Strawberry or Chocolate" from 1987, "The Fortune Teller" from 1987, and an earlier untitled work from 1963. The paintings were originally acquired in New York City by a Chicago collector and kept in an art storage facility until now. "These are wonderful figurative paintings by a celebrated expressionist, and we are very pleased to have these important works available to our clients" said Sam Heaton, Gallery Director. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10 to 6, and Sunday, 12 to 5.
The Michael H. Lord Gallery, first established in 1978, recently opened its new location in the Palm Springs Design District at 1090 North Palm Canyon Drive at Tachevah Drive. Located in an architecturally-significant building built in 1929 as the garage for the swank El Mirador Hotel, the 6,000 square foot art gallery is the largest in Palm Springs and shows museum-quality artwork.
