CARDIFF, WALES, August 16, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Angela M. Gorman, the Chief Executive Officer of Life for African Mothers, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in her commitment to running a successful nonprofit organization.
Founded in 2005, Life for African Mothers (LfAM) is one of a very small number of charities whose single aim is to have a positive impact by the most direct means possible. Every year, around 180,000 women die from post partum haemorrhage, with tens of thousands of women and their babies dying in childbirth from the effects of eclampsia. In an effort to drastically reduce this number, Life for African Mothers is committed to providing medicines to treat eclampsia and post-partum haemorrhage to maternity hospitals across Sub-Saharan Africa. Both medications to treat these conditions and save the lives of a mother and her baby can be acquired for less than GBP5.
The charity also facilitates midwifery training programs to keep qualified local midwives up to date with their skills, which in turn enables them to become trainers themselves. As CEO of the organization, Ms. Gorman supports this effort by overseeing fundraising and marketing efforts, developing strategic plans and controlling the implementation and distribution of drugs that help to keep African mothers alive. She is an expert at creating visibility and exposure, and as a qualified nurse for 30 years, she previously worked as a senior neonatal ICU sister at Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust from March 1976 to March 2010.
Attributing her success to her passion and the simplicity of the Life for African Mothers mission, Ms. Gorman became involved in her profession when she learned of the staggering number of women who die during or after giving birth in Africa. She decided to get involved, confident in her ability to create solutions to this problem.
Ms. Gorman has completed coursework at the South Glamorgan School of Nursing and is a member of Rotary International. An optimist as well as an activist, in the near future, Ms. Gorman hopes to achieve a reduction of poverty, hunger and child mortality as well as have greater gender equality.
