WARRENTON, VA, September 18, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Susan L. Biggs, M.Ed., NCC, GCDF, Counseling Director for Stafford High School in Stafford County, has been named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year in school counseling and guidance. While inclusion in Worldwide Who's Who is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Who's Who membership.
Ms. Biggs brings nearly four decades of professional experience in counseling to her position as the counseling director for Stafford High School. For the past 21 years, she has exercised her expertise in personal, career and crisis counseling to provide leadership for a counseling program consisting of a staff of four counselors, and deliver and implement counseling services to a high school community of almost 2,000 students and their parents, as well as 200 faculty and staff. Representing her school in the County Counselors Leadership Cabinet, Ms. Biggs also serves on the SHS Leadership Team sharing her experience and expertise. She supervises graduate and undergraduate school counseling interns as well. An adept and goal-oriented counselor who helps clients create a coherent, effective plan for future success, Ms. Biggs received an Excellence in Counseling Leadership Award in 2012 from Stafford County Public Schools. She attributes her success to her persistence, perseverance and family support.
In addition to contributing her valuable experience to Stafford High School, Ms. Biggs brings her talents to Marymount University as an adjunct professor of the graduate school counseling program, where she teaches courses in Career Counseling for School Counselors and Counseling Children and Adolescents. Before working in either position, she served as a director and crisis counselor for the Runaway & Homeless Youth Project at CHILD, Inc and as the coordinator of guidance services at Manassas City Public Schools. In the near future, she hopes to achieve her instructor's certification to continue to teach career counseling for professionals and to explore this field more in depth, particularly in working with high school and college students. She finds great satisfaction in helping young people "launch" successfully into their careers.
Highly-educated, Ms. Biggs holds a Master's of Education in guidance and counseling from Salisbury University and a Graduate Certificate in pastoral counseling from Marymount University. She is credentialed as a Global Career Development Facilitator by the NCDA and is certified as a National Certified Counselor by the National Board for Certified Counselors and Affiliates, Inc. Maintaining her professionalism, she retains affiliations with Delta Epsilon Sigma, the Association for Spiritual, Ethical and Religious Values in Counseling, the Virginia Counselors Association, the Virginia Career Development Association, the American Counseling Association, the American School Counselor Association and the National Career Development Association. Aside from her professional endeavors, Ms. Biggs enjoys reading, gardening and golfing in her spare time.
